As the world slowly transitions to IPv6, the email world has resisted the move. The reasons for this are simple: accepting anonymous email over IPv6 would cause email filters to drop in effectiveness, as well as crash the mail servers under the increased load since IP blocklists would be rendered ineffective.
Yet calls for email over IPv6, while few, are present. There are a small set of users who wish to send and receive mail over IPv6. This article looks at why email over IPv6 has such large obstacles, and presents a short-term plan for how to accomplish it without the mail servers falling over.
