Mails promising tax refund just another scam.
Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the UK taxation authority, has issued a warning regarding a phishing campaign using its name.
The spammed scam uses the HMRC name and styling, and offers recipients a sizeable refund in their taxes. It goes on to say that the refund will be paid directly into bank accounts, and to request account details for this purpose.
HMRC has made it clear that the emails are entirely bogus and that any information handed over is likely to be used to defraud victims. The statement is here.
