AV firm releases phone security beta.
BitDefender has become the latest AV company to make a move into the mobile device market. It has released a beta of its mobile AV software, supporting the Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms and offering on-demand and on-access protection, along with 'easy updates' and tech support.
Major players already in the market include McAfee, Symantec and Trend Micro, but by far the most high-profile is F-Secure (see here for more on the recent rows between them and Symbian).
'Despite controversy over the current significance of virus threats to mobile devices, few doubt that the problem is likely to grow as mobile devices get more sophisticated and widespread,' said John Hawes, Technical Consultant at Virus Bulletin. 'We can expect more major companies to produce mobile products in the near future.'
