Largest judgement against spammers to date.
A company in Iowa has been awarded a total of more than $1 billion in what is believed to be the largest judgement to date against spammers. The Associated Press reports that Iowa man Robert Kramer, owner of service provider CIS Internet Services, filed law suits against 300 spammers after the company's mail servers had received up to 10 million spam emails per day in 2000.
Last week US District Judge Charles R. Wolle filed judgments against three of the defendants under the Federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and the Iowa Ongoing Criminal Conduct Act.
- AMP Dollar Savings Inc. of Mesa, Arizona, was ordered to pay $720 million
- Cash Link Systems Inc. of Miami, Florida, was ordered to pay $360 million
- Florida-based TEI Marketing Group was ordered to pay $140,000
While Mr Kramer's attorney said he believes Kramer is unlikely ever to collect the judgment, Kramer was reported to be pleased with the victory.
