Spammer ordered to pay $4 million damages to Microsoft.
A Californian man has been ordered to pay $4 million to Microsoft after he was found guilty of having sent unsolicited email to users of the corporation's MSN and Hotmail services.
A federal judge found that Daniel Khoshnood and his company Pointcom Inc. had used deceptive email and web addresses (such as 'hottmail.com', 'microsoftc.com', and 'wwwwindows.com'). The judge ordered the defendants to pay damages and attorneys' fees and cease any activity that purports to be official communication from Microsoft.
Microsoft has a number of other lawsuits against spammers pending, and says that, from those cases in which it has already claimed victory, it has been awarded more than $54 million in judgments.
